There's never a right time to say goodbye

One of the downsides of working at a hakgwon is that students come and go unpredictably. But oddly enough, (I don't know if this is a reflection of my indifference or acceptance), I've grown fine with it. Proof: three of my "favorites" have left in the course of 1 1/2 months, (two just this past week). But the sad part is that all three students really think they are coming back. This is how hakgwon moms avoid the uncomfortable confrontation of officially quitting, (and avoiding dealing with the kids' complaints), they say their kids are taking a "break" or going away. But me having established pretty close relations with these three, I have learned otherwise. Today, my student said he was coming back after break, but in my head I knew that was most likely not the case. He said he was sad when he found out today was his last class but that his mom said he'll be coming back (another thing, moms wait till the day OF to tell their kids!). But.. strangely enough I have come to accept the fact while being in Korea, people are going to be transient. And no matter how much time you have to prepare yourself for a proper goodbye, it will still not suffice. In the end, there's never a right time to say goodbye.
